JOURNAL

Greetings all, I haven’t written in what feels like decades so time to tidy up and finish what I started, so I can tell you all about my 2018 and how 2019 should be a much better year.

hey 2019

The previous post was about how the magic of the ancestors flowed through me and I was able to slick my 4b/4c hair. Well tonight I’m here to tell you about all the different options that open up once you learn that your very thick, curly hair can in fact be sleek.

In all my trial and error, I did learn that too much product leads to a white flaky look and no one wants that at all. That sounds like a pretty obvious conclusion but I figured it out and that’s all that matters.

The High Pony

One of my absolute favorite hairstyles of all time is the high ponytail. I feel like everyone can definitely rock it, as long as they don’t mind a headache or two…

This ponytail took me all day to prep but I really loved it. I mixed 1 pack of kanekalon braiding hair with a few strands of marley braiding hair to make it look more realistic.

Something about a high ponytail is just so regal and cute!

Also this adorable sea foam faux fur is from H&M and it is one of my favorite pieces.

The High Braided Pony

This is a great alternative to the regular high ponytail because it there is more room to personalize it, with jewels, beads and string.

All I did here was braid down my jumbo ponytail, and then pull some to fluff it up a bit.

On the bottom I tied a black rubber band, wrapped the remaining hair around a flexi rod, and dipped in hot water for a sassy little curl at the end.

This style made me feel very high fashion, I’m not sure why but I may have enjoyed this more than the regular ponytail.

Overall I definitely recommend this as a quick cheap style if you don’t know what to do with your hair for a week or two.

Don’t tie your hair too tight, or you WILL get a headache and try to rip it off before you get back home…

Let me tell y’all about how I flourished in February, natural hair wise at least.  I finally attempted a sleek style and it worked!!! I went from slicked back natural hair, to a high fashion high ponytail, to an iconic tail length braid and I was living. GET INTO IT.

Like most people, I have several different textures of lovely hair and it can sometimes be difficult. The top is definitely 4c, the sides are a solid 4b/4c mixture and in the back the last 2 inches are all 3c it’s always been this way. Growing up I honestly didn’t think that sleek styles were possible for people with hair like mine, but I have seen the light! Now I’m here to deliver all my type 4 sisters to the light as well.

I washed my hair with Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Shampoo, with I like, however it dries my hair out just a bit we can’t have brittle curls. So after that I went in with the Moroccan Pear Conditioning Custard which really hydrates, moisturizes and softens my hair, it felt soooo good after I rinsed it out.

Here comes the scary part, the slicking and sleeking while slippery.. I started at the back of my head with the 3C hair and worked my way up. For each section I applied Eden’s Coconute Shea Leave In Conditioner, Cream of Nature’s Argan Oil and Eco Style’s Castor Oil and Flaxseed Gel in that order. I brushed through each section with my Denman brush and put a black scrunchy on after adding each section to the ponytail.

When I got to the front of my head, I parted my hair on the side I liked best, and continued slicking until I was completely done. The only thing I added was the Murray’s Edgewax along the part and on my edges because type 4 edges in my experience are harder to lay and this wax seems to do the trick for me.

LOOK AT THAT 4C HAIR SHINING, POPPING, WAVING!

Black hair can do so many things, this is probably one of the coolest. I loved this style because my hair wasn’t flaky, frizzy or hard to deal with for the few days I had it in and it was nice to imagine what I’d look like with shorter hair.

No hair in the face can sometimes be a good thing and it was a nice change for me considering all I ever do is wear long, big hair styles. This was simple and fun, plus the curl definition in the poof was very nice. ❤

Every year my school Howard University throws the gathering of all gatherings for homecoming. There are alumni events, undergrad events and some open to the public. The pep rally usually kicks of a week of fun however there wasn’t very much pep at the rally this year. So let’s fast forward to Thursday, the day of Pulse, the fashion show.

Leading up to homecoming I, along with the majority of bison, couldn’t find anything worth buying to wear for the entire weekend f festivities so we just decided to wing it… My version of winging it was to design and sew my outfit all by my lonesome with a bit of help from my mom. Only problem was that I had one weekend, which turned into one day to make my outfit, which turned into one pair of pants by the end of that weekend and a me making the shirt between classes up to the night before the show.

Now don’t forget, I’m not even in the fashion show nor are my designs but the fit for the event ALWAYS matters at Howard, there’s no escaping that. So here’s to my stunning, yes quite stunning, fashion show fit with my Diana Ross inspired hair.

I’m not really sure where I got the idea for this outfit but I’m glad it came out the exact way I pictured it, glamorous and elegant as well as colorful and fun. When you look good you feel good and I felt a billion times better knowing that absolutely no one would be wearing the same outfit as me.

As I told you before this look was inspired by Diana Ross and when I think of her I think big glam hair along with perfect accessories to match. So I opted for HUGE wand curls that I brushed out right before I left my dorm. They took about four hours to complete but it was so worth it. I’m not much of a makeup person yet so I did my absolute best with what I had.

I wore at least two layers of  Miss Manga Voluminous Mascara by L’Oreal, NYX Black Liquid liner, Maybelline Fit Me foundation and Sephora microsmooth luminizer “Stardust”. On my lips I wore MAC’s On and On lipstick with their clear Lipglass on top.

And no, the night wouldn’t have been complete without a few Snapchat pics to make the memories last forever.

There’s no better time to be a diva than NOW…
